Sinan Baghdadi (1773-early October 1805) was a general of the Ottoman Empire who fought in the Russo-Turkish War of 1805, during which he died in the Siege of Burgas.
Biography[]
Sinan Baghdadi was born to an Arab family in Baghdad, then part of the Ottoman Empire, in 1773. He became a general at the age of 32, and fought in the Russo-Turkish War of 1805 against the Russian Empire. He was the best general of the Ottoman Empire at the time; he was called a soldier from birth and an uncle to his men, and a confident general who was steady under fire. However, he commanded a poorly-trained and inexperienced army against Fyodor Fyodorovich Buxhoewden's experienced Russian troops, and in the Siege of Burgas he was killed after failing to destroy the Russian army.
