The Siege of Oldenburg (late August 1805) was a battle of the Napoleonic Wars that occurred when two French armies (some 2,393 troops) under Marshals Louis-Nicolas Davout and Joachim Murat laid siege to the Oldenburger capital of Oldenburg, Frisia, defended by 2,454 troops under Valentin Hofstadter; a small reinforcing army led by General Emanuel Bach arrived to assist the garrison. The French stormed the city with 677 losses and inflicted 2,334 losses on the Oldenburgers, conquering the duchy. Oldenburg was incorporated into the First French Empire after its destruction.
