Sidney Preston Osborn

Sidney Preston Osborn (17 May 1884-25 May 1948) was the Democratic Governor of Arizona from 6 January 1941 to 25 May 1948, succeeding Robert Taylor Jones and preceding Dan Edward Garvey.

Biography[]

Sidney Preston Osborn was born in Phoenix, Arizona Territory in 1884, and he worked as a newspaper reporter and editor before serving as Secretary of State of Arizona from 1912 to 1919 and as Governor from 1941 to 1948. He had the state's top officials turn in unsigned resignation letters upon taking office, planning to date and sign the letters if the state's top officials embarrassed themselves. He died of Lou Gehrig's disease in 1948.
