Sibylla of Jerusalem (1160-1190) was the Queen of Jerusalem from 1186 to 1190 and the Duchess of Ascalon with Guy de Lusignan.
Biography[]
Sibylla was born in 1160 to the House of Anjou, a dynasty of Catholic French. She was the daughter of Amalric I of Jerusalem and Agnes of Courtenay, but she was raised by her great-aunt Ioveta of Bethany. In 1176, Baldwin IV of Jerusalem and Raymond III of Tripoli arranged for her to marry William Longsword. She was made Duchess of Ascalon, a title that was seen as the heir apparent's title. Her husband died in 1177, but she was pregnant with his son, the future Baldwin V of Jerusalem. She wanted to remarry to Balian of Ibelin, but her mother had her marry the newly-arrived Frankish knight Guy de Lusignan instead. Sibylla reigned as queen with Guy after her son Baldwin V died in 1186, and she died in 1190.
