Shoshone

The Shoshone are a Native American people native to Idaho, Utah, and Nevada in the American West. During the 1750s, the Shoshone in the Great Plains were pushed south and westward due to warring with the Blackfoot, Crow, Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes, and the Shoshone in Texas became known as the "Comanche". During the 1860s, the Shoshone fought against US settlement in Idaho, leading to the massacre of 410 Shoshone tribesmen at the Bear River by the US Army in 1863. The Shoshone occasionally allied with the USA against their Lakota and Cheyenne enemies during the USA's wars with the Sioux tribe, and the last Shoshone war would occur in 1911, when a posse killed a small band of Shoshone raiders in Washoe County, Nevada after the raiders killed four white ranchers. In 2000, there were 12,300 Shoshone in the United States.
