The Shincheonji Church of Jesus is a pseudo-Christian new religious movement which was founded by Lee Man-hee in South Korea in 1984. Lee was the church's self-proclaimed messiah, and his adherents believed that he was the returned Jesus Christ and "the promised pastor". His followers also believed that he would take 144,000 people to Heaven after Jesus' second coming, and that Lee was uniquely able to interpret the Book of Revelation. By March 2020, there were 317,320 members of the church, and the party was accused of exerting influence over the Saenuri party, with Lee choosing its new name "Liberty Korea Party".
