Shikinami

Shikinami was an Imperial Japanese Navy destroyer that was built at the Maizuru Naval Arsenal in 1928 and was commissioned in 1929. The ship, the 12th of 24 Fubuki-class destroyers, was one of the most powerful destroyers in the world upon being commissioned, and she fought in the Sino-Japanese War and the early battles of World War II, including the invasion of Malaya, the Battle of Midway, the Indian Ocean Raid, and the Solomon Islands campaign. She took part in numerous Tokyo Express missions, and she rescued Admiral Masatomi Kimura and other survivors after the Battle of the Bismarck Sea in 1943. On 12 September 1944, she was torpedoed by a US Navy submarine 280 miles south of Hong Kong, and Rear Admiral Sadamichi Kajioka died aboard her, as did her captain.
