Shigematsu Taniguchi (1941-17 December 1988) was a Japanese prison guard and policeman who lived in Osaka, Japan during the 1980s. He was a frequent contact of the corrupt detective Billiken Nishitani, who bribed him to let his nephew Homare Nishitani use one of his jail cells as a safehouse, but, on 17 December 1988, Taniguchi was bribed by the Dojima-gumi lieutenant Keiji Shibusawa to murder both Billiken and Nishitani in retribution for Homare's failure to capture Makoto Makimura. Taniguchi accepted the offer without reservation, as her daughter was getting ready to attend college, and he shot Billiken in his office before shooting Homare Nishitani in the hallway. However, he ran out of bullets, and Nishitani - who still managed to stand - lunged at Taniguchi and beat him to death before he succumbed to his own wounds.
