The Shiba clan was a family of ancient Japan that ruled over Owari Province at the time of the Genpei War. The Shiba, centered at their stronghold of Inazawa in present-day Aichi Prefecture, were a small and insignificant clan at the time, and they would survive until the 1550s. The Shiba sided with the Ashikaga Shogunate in his 1335 skirmishes with Emperor Go-Toba, but it would fall out with the Ashikaga after the Ashikaga clan tried to usurp power at the start of the Onin War in 1477, leading to war. In 1554, the clan came to an end when Oda clan member Nobutomo Oda killed Yoshimune Shiba.
