
Sheldon Adelson (4 August 1933-11 January 2021) was an American businessman, investor, and political donor who was most famous for founding and owning the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, owning the newspapers Israel Hayom, Makor Rishon, and the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and being one of Donald Trump's largest donors. Born in Boston, Massachusetts to a Jewish father and an English immigrant mother, he became a serial entrepreneur during the 1960s, became rich from the burgeoning computer industry during the 1970s, and purchased the Sands Hotel and Casino in 1988 for $110 million (now $237.8 million) and expanded his business as far as Singapore and Macau. He and his wife Miriam Adelson became Trump's largest donors, and he was also a major donor to Benjamin Netanyahu. By September 2020, he had a net worth of $33.5 billion, making him the 28th-richest person in the world. He died in Malibu, California in 2021 at the age of 87.
