Seymour Levov

Seymour Irving "Swede" Levov (1926-1996) was an American businessman from Newark, New Jersey.

Biography[]

Seymour Levov was born in the Weequahic section of Newark, New Jersey in 1926 to a Jewish family, and he was nicknamed "Swede" due to his light complexion. His father was Lou Levov, a glovemaking magnate. He was an all-star state athlete during his high school years, graduating in 1944, and he joined the US Marine Corps that same year, just missing the end of World War II. Upon returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, 1947 Miss New Jersey Dawn Dwyer, a Catholic. They had a daughter, Merry Levov, and they moved onto a large farm in Old Rimrock, with Seymour commuting 30 miles to his father's glove factory. Like his father, Levov was a Democrat, saying that, had Barry Goldwater won the 1964 presidential election, he would have buried everyone with his far-right policies. During the 1960s, Merry became a political terrorist, disappearing after carrying out three bombings during the 1967 Newark riots; Seymour and Dawn's old life was ruined by their daughter's activities. He last saw his daughter in 1970, failing to convince his daughter to return home. He died in 1996 after a long illness.
