Seti II (died 1197 BC) was Pharaoh of Egypt from 1203 to 1197 BC, succeeding Merneptah and preceding Siptah.
Biography[]
Seti was the son of Merneptah and Isetnofret, and he married Twosret. In 1203 BC, he succeeded his late father as Pharaoh "Userkheperure Setepenre", and he named the Syrian Bay as his chancellor. However, Seti was almost immediately challenged by his uncle or half-brother Amenmesse, who seized control of Upper Egypt. Amenmesse gained the upper hand in the struggle and seized control of Nubia before violating Seti's tomb-to-be in the Valley of Kings in 1201 BC. In 1198 BC, Seti defeated Amenmesse, and he purged all memory of his vanquished rival. He died in 1197 BC.
