Seti I (1325 BC-1279 BC) was Pharaoh of Egypt from 1290 to 1279 BC, succeeding Ramesses I and preceding Ramesses II.
Biography[]
Sety Merenptah was the son of Pharaoh Ramesses I and Sitre, and he acceeded to the throne of Egypt upon his father's death in 1290 BC. In the first decade of his reign, he fought several campaigns in the Levant, Nubia, and Libya, and his greatest achievement was the capture of the town of Kadesh from the Hittite Empire. He reconquered most of the territories disputed with the Hittites before dying in 1279 BC. He is sometimes identified as the Pharaoh who was the brother of Bithiah, who adopted Moses as a son, and who exiled Moses to Midian after discovering that he was the son of Israelite slaves.
