Sergey Semenovich Khabalov (21 April 1858 – 1924) was a Lieutenant-General of the Imperial Russian Army and the commander of the garrison of St. Petersburg (Petrograd) during the February Revolution of 1917.
Biography[]
Sergey Semenovich Khabalov was born on 21 April 1858 to a family of Ossetian origin, and he served in the Imperial Russian Army during the war against the Ottoman Empire from 1877 to 1878. In 1886, he graduated from the General Staff Academy, and he served in several staff positions during the late 1800s and early 1900s. From 1914 to 1916, he served as the military governor of Ural, and he took command of the garrison of Petrograd (now St. Petersburg) in 1917. Khabalov was imprisoned at the Peter and Paul Fortress after the February Revolution, and he was released after the October Revolution. In 1919, he headed to southern Russia, and he left Novorossiysk for Thessaloniki, Greece in 1920. He died there in 1924.
