Sergey V. Goryachev

Sergey Vladimirovich Goryachev (22 October 1970-12 June 2023) was a Major-General of the Russian Army and chief of staff of the 35th Combined Arms Army during the Russo-Ukrainian War. He was killed in action during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Biography[]

Sergey Vladimirovich Goryachev was born in Ozherelye, Moscow Oblast, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union in 1970, and he joined the Russian Army in 1994. He rose from commanding a reconnaissance platoon to serving as commander of the Operational Group of Russian Forces in Transnistria from 2013 to 2014, as commander of a military base in Tajikistan from 2018 to 2022, and as acting commander of the 35th Combined Arms Army during the Russo-Ukrainian War. He and several other senior officers were killed in a Storm Shadow missile strike in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia Oblast in 2023 amid the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive.
