Sengge Rinchen (1811-18 May 1865) was a Mongol nobleman and general who served the Qing dynasty at the time of the Second Opium War and the Taiping Rebellion.
Biography[]
Sengge Rinchen was born in Inner Mongolia in 1811 to a family of Mongols, and he was a member of the same clan as Genghis Khan. In 1825, he became a prince in the Qing dynasty, and he also became a general, taking part in the suppression of the Taiping Rebellion. In 1857, he was made an Imperial Commissioner and was sent to protect Tianjin from foreign forces during the Second Opium War. In 1865, his last war was the Nian Rebellion, during which he was ambushed and killed in the woods near a tavern in Heze, Shandong.
