Selim I Giray

Selim I Giray (1631-22 December 1704) was Khan of Crimea from 1671 to 1678 (succeeding Adil Giray and preceding Murad Giray), from 1684 to 1691 (succeeding Haci II Giray and preceding Saadet III Giray), from 1692 to 1699 (succeeding Safa Giray and preceding Devlet II Giray), and from 1702 to 1704 (succeeding Devlet II and preceding Gazi III Giray). A son of Bahadir I Giray, he was enthroned by the Ottomans in 1671 and participated in the 1672 Siege of Kamenets during the war with Poland. He was deposed several times for Crimean failures in Ottoman campaigns and even for drunkenness, and, during his reigns, he battled the Poles and Russians. He died in 1704.
