Sefer Halilovic (6 January 1952-) was a general of Bosnia and Herzegovina's army, the ARBiH, during the Bosnian War, as well as the leader of the far-right Bosnian-Herzegovinian Patriotic Party-Sefer Halilovic (BPS).
Biography[]
Sefer Halilovic was born in Prijepolje, Serbia, Yugoslavia on 6 January 1952 to a family of Muslim Bosniaks, and he attended the Belgrade military academy from 1971 to 1974. In 1975, he became a Yugoslav People's Army officer after graduating from the Zadar military school, and he held the rank of Major by the time that the Bosnian War had broken out. In May 1992, he became the most senior commander of Bosnia and Herzegovina's new ARBiH military at the start of the war, and he survived a bombing assassination attempt in 1993. After the war, he founded the far-right Bosnian-Herzegovinian Patriotic Party-Sefer Halilovic party, and he was tried for war crimes, although he was acquitted.
