The Second Battle of Khan Yunis was fought between Israel and Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip from 22 to 30 July 2024 amid the Israel-Hamas War.
In April 2024,Israel withdrew from Khan Yunis, claiming to have destroyed Hamas' military capabilities in the city and to be preparing for the Rafah offensive farther south. After the Israeli withdrawal, Hamas began a mass recruitment of 18-year-olds in Khan Yunis to replace the massive casualties suffered, and Israel renewed its invasion of Khan Yunis in July 2024 to once again dismantle Hamas in the city. The IDF struck 30 Hamas infrastructure targets with ground strikes and airstrikes before dispatching tanks into multiple small towns on the eastern fringe of Khan Yunis. An attack on Bani Suheila left 73 Palestinians dead and 270 injured. Hamas responded with RPG and anti-armor projectile fire. On 24 July, the IDF recovered the bodies of 2 Israeli civilians and 3 soldiers who had been killed during Hamas' 7 October 2023 "al-Aqsa Flood" offensive. On 30 July, the IDF once again withdrew from Khan Yunis after completing its re-clearing operations, and civilians returned to eastern Khan Yunis and Bani Suhaila that same day.
