Sean South (1928-1 January 1957) was an IRA member who served in Sean Garland's column during the "border campaign" of 1956-62 on the border with Northern Ireland. South and Fergal O'Hanlon were killed in a raid on a Royal Ulster Constabulary barracks.
Biography[]
Sean South was born in 1928 in Limerick, County Limerick, Ireland. South worked as a clerk at a wood-importing company, and he went on to join the nationalist Sinn Fein party, later choosing to volunteer in the Irish Republican Army. On 1 January 1957, South and Fergal O'Hanlon were both killed in a raid on a Royal Ulster Constabulary barracks in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland during the IRA "border campaign".
