Sayeret Matkal is a special forces unit of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of Israel, formed in 1957. It was modelled after the United Kingdom's Special Air Service (SAS), and it even adopted its motto, "Who dares wins". Sayeret Matkal conducts reconnaissance missions behind enemy lines to gather intelligence, and it also engages in counter-terrorism and hostage rescue operations beyond Israel's borders. Benjamin Netanyahu, Yonatan Netanyahu, Ehud Barak, Shaul Mofaz, and Moshe Yaalon all served in Sayeret Matkal.
