Saxony is a federal state of Germany, located in the east of the country and on the border with Poland and the Czech Republic. Saxony has been a medieval duchy, an electorate of the Holy Roman Empire, a kingdom, and twice a republic, and it has had a very long history. Saxony's capital is Dresden, while the largest city is Leipzig; in 2016, Saxony had a population of 4,084,851 people.
