Sardinia is an island in the Mediterranean Sea and an autonomous region of Italy. The island is the second-largest Mediterranean island after Sicily and before Cyprus, and it has its own culture, with Sardinian, Sassarese, Gallurese, Algherese (Catalan), and Tabarchino (Ligurian) being spoken on the island. In June 2014, Sardinia had a population of 1,161,189 people, most of whom are Catholic.
