Sarah (2047 BC-1920 BC) was the wife and half-sister of Abraham. Originally known as Sarai, she was the daughter of Terah, and she later married her half-brother, accompanying him to Egypt. While she was barren, she was beautiful, and Abraham told Sarai to claim that she was his sister when he travelled to Egypt, lest the jealous Egyptians murder him. She was presented to Pharaoh Amenemhat I as Abraham's sister, and Amenemhat rewarded Abraham and Lot during their stay in Egypt. However, God caused a plague to strike the Pharaoh's home due to Sarai being Abraham's wife, and the angry Pharaoh cast away the three of them from his kingdom. Sarah would later have her maid Hagar serve as Abraham's mistress in order to bear him a son, and their son's name was Ishmael. God later decided to rename "Sarai" to "Sarah" and bless her with a son, Isaac. They settled in the land of the Philistines, and she was again passed off as Abraham's sister in front of Abimelech. Abimelech soon had a dream where God told him of Sarah's marriage to Abraham; however, Abraham explained that he had never lied to Abimelech, as she was both his sister and his wife. She went on to die at the age of 127, and she was buried in the Cave of the Patriarchs.
