Sanya Dharmasakti

Sanya Dharmasakti (5 April 1907-6 January 2002) was Prime Minister of Thailand from 14 October 1973 to 26 February 1975, succeeding Thanom Kittikachorn and preceding Seni Pramoj.

Biography[]

Sanya Dharmasakti was born in Thonburi Province, Siam in 1907, the son of a Buddhist scholar. He practiced law and taught at university before serving as president of the supreme court from 1968 to 1973 and serving as dean of the Thammasat University law faculty at the time of the 1973 Thai popular uprising. Sanya was appointed prime minister by royal command in the wake of the uprising, and he ordered the withdrawal of US Air Force personnel from Thailand after the fall of Cambodia and South Vietnam to communism. Sanya left office in 1975 and died in 2002.
