The Santa Muerte Sanctuary raid occurred in 2019 when a team of American special forces raided the Santa Muerte Sanctuary in Bolivia's Espiritu Santo department.
Esteban Ibarra was La Santera's advisor and the cartel's chief point of contact with the cult of Santa Muerte. He regularly delivered sermons to the faithful from a sanctuary in Espiritu Santo, and Major Anthony Perryman and his Ghost Recon team came to the sanctuary to assassinate Ibarra. Perryman stealthily took out several perimeter guards before lobbing grenades into the church, killing Ibarra and several of his men. The Americans fled before cartel reinforcements could arrive, having weakened the cartel's ties to La Santera's cult.
