Santa Maria

La Santa María de la Inmaculada Concepción, also called La Santa María, was a carrack used by Christopher Columbus in his first expedition across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492. Built in Pontevedra, Galicia, the ship served as Columbus' flagship before running aground off Haiti during his first voyage. Columbus ordered his men to strip La Santa María of her timbers and use them to build a fort near present-day Limonade.
