
Samuel Ritter Peters (16 August 1842-21 April 1910) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-KS AL) from 4 March 1883 to 3 March 1885 and from KS-7 from 4 March 1885 to 3 March 1891 (preceding Jerry Simpson). Born in Walnut Township, Ohio, he served in the 73rd Ohio Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War before practicing law in Memphis, Missouri (serving as mayor in 1873) and in Marion, Kansas. He served as a judge before moving to Newton and serving in Congress and as postmaster from 1898 to 1910, and he died in office.
