Samuel Philipse (1747-1799) was an American lawyer and the magistrate of Sleepy Hollow.
Biography[]
Samuel Philipse was born in Philadelphia in 1747. He moved to Sleepy Hollow in 1777 where he became the the town's magistrate. He was one of the most notorious neighbours of the village alongside with Peter Van Garret, Baltus Van Tassel, James Hardenbrook, Thomas Lancaster and Geoffrey Steenwyck. In 1799, he was one of the main victims of the Headless Horseman, he was supposedly killed by the Hessian Mercenary while he was trying to leave the town. Ichabod Crane was the only one person who was there.
