Samuel Johnston Clayton

Samuel Johnston Clayton was an American reverend and captain of the Texas Rangers during the Wild West era. In 1868, he put together a posse to search for Lars Jorgensen's rustled cattle and, after the Edwards Farm massacre, to hunt down the Comanche war party that both stole the cattle and kidnapped Lucy and Debbie Edwards. He ultimately gave up the chase after determining that the Rangers had insufficient numbers, leaving Ethan Edwards, Martin Pawley, and Brad Jorgensen to continue the search by themselves. In 1873, Clayton would partner with these searchers (minus the late Brad Jorgensen) and the US Army to bring about Chief Scar's downfall at the Battle of Seven Fingers.
