Samuel Horley (1844-) was the personal secretary of New Orleans socialite Jessica LeClerk during the late 19th century and an associate of several major figures of the late Wild West era.
Biography[]
Samuel Horley was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1844, and he entered the service of Jessica LeClerk during her marriage to Philip LeClerk and became her trusted personal secretary and fixer. As Jessica's right-hand man, he established connections with influential men such as the US Marshal Tom Davies, the Sheriffs of Blackwater, Valentine, and Tumbleweed, the corrupt postal worker Alden Carruthers, and the horse thief Clay Davies. In 1898, he arranged for the rescue of the wrongfully-convicted petty criminal known as the "Arizona Kid" from a Sisika Penitentiary prison convoy on the orders of Jessica; Arizona had been arrested after being framed for Philip LeClerk's murder in Blackwater, and Jessica and Horley put Arizona to work in hunting down the real perpetrators. Horley arranged introductions to Old Man Jones, J.B. Cripps, Clay Davies, and several other notables who provided Arizona with employment or assistance in his quest.
