
Samuel Bennett (1744-1806) was a colonel of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.
Biography[]
Samuel Bennett was born in Florence, South Carolina in 1744, and he came from a family of landed aristocracy. Bennett raised his own regiment of dragoons for the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, fighting at the Battle of Cowpens in January 1781; he played a key role in defeating the British. After the war, he returned to his plantations, and he became involved with Democratic-Republican Party politics. He died in 1806.
