Samuel "Sammy" Robinson (died 27 February 1968) was an African-American organized crime boss from New Orleans, Louisiana, who led the "black mob" of the city during the 1960s.
Biography[]
Sammy Robinson was born in New Orleans to an African-American family, and he spoke with a French Creole accent. Robinson was a devout Catholic, and he became a respected member of the black community of the city. He would become the leader of the "Black Mob", a group of criminals based at his bar in Algiers, and Robinson worked with the Marcano crime family of the American Mafia, giving them a cut of the action. Robinson raised the future crime boss Lincoln Clay alongside his own son Ellis Robinson, and Clay was always fiercely loyal to Sammy, seeing him as a father figure. Robinson ran a communal soup kitchen, was active in the local Catholic community, and had a personal code of honor, making the people of Algiers revere him.
Downfall[]
In 1968, however, Robinson ran into issues with the Haitian gang seemingly led by Baka, and he also began to run out of money. The American Mafia was not pleased, and they decided to assassinate Robinson and destroy the black mob after Sal Marcano believed that he had outlived his usefulness. On 27 February 1968, shortly after Robinson's mob helped in the robbery of the Federal Reserve Bank of New Orleans, Giorgi Marcano, Sal Marcano, and Ritchie Doucet arrived at the bar, supposedly to celebrate. However, the celebration turned into a murder scene when Giorgi proceeded to shoot Lincoln Clay in the head (knocking him out, but not killing him). Sal kicked Robinson to the floor and shot him twice in the back of the head, killing him. The bar was then burned down, and Clay - the sole survivor of the incident - decided to embark on a quest of revenge.
