Sami Frasheri (1 June 1850-18 June 1904) was an Albanian nationalist writer.
Biography[]
Sami Frasheri was born in Frasher, Ottoman Albania in 1850, the brother of Abdyl Frasheri and Naim Frasheri. The son of an impoverished bey, he was raised in Ioannina, and he joined his brothers in their nationalist activism with the League of Prizren in 1877. He became a writer and playwright like his brother Naim, promoting Albanian literature, Turkish nationalism against Ottoman nationalism, and anti-clericalism and secularism against Sunni theocracy. In 1899, he professed his support for an independent republic of Albania, and he died in Istanbul in 1904.
