
Samuel Morgan Slom (13 April 1942-21 May 2023) was a member of the Hawaii Senate (R-9) from 5 November 1996 to 8 November 2016, succeeding Donna R. Ikeda and preceding Stanley Chang. Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania to a Jewish family, he served as chief economist for the Bank of Hawaii before entering politics. From 2010 to 2016, he was the GOP's sole state senator in Hawaii. He supported Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, even as the Hawaii Republican Party split along pro- and anti-Trump lines.
