
Sam Hinds (27 December 1943-) was Prime Minister of Guyana from 9 October 1992 to 6 March 1997 (succeeding Hamilton Green and preceding Janet Jagan), from 19 December 1997 to 9 August 1999 (succeeding Jagan and preceding Bharrat Jagdeo), and from 11 August 1999 to 20 May 2015 (succeeding Jagdeo and preceding Moses Nagamootoo, and President of Guyana from 6 March to 19 December 1997 (succeeding Cheddi Jagan and preceding Janet Jagan).
Biography[]
Sam Hinds was born in Mahaicony, British Guiana in 1943,and he worked as a chemical engineer before entering politics with the PPP/C party. He served as President Cheddi Jagan's vice president and prime minister from 1992 to 1997 before temporarily serving as President after Jagan's death; he went on to serve as his widow Janet Jagan's prime minister from 1997 to 2015. He became Ambassador to the United States in 2021.
