Selim Hoss (20 December 1929-25 August 2024) was Prime Minister of Lebanon from 8 December 1976 to 20 July 1980, succeeding Rashid Karami and preceding Takieddin as-Solh, from 2 June 1987 to 14 October 1990, succeeding Rashid Karami and preceding Omar Karami, and from 6 December 1998 to 23 October 2000, both succeeding and preceding Rafic Hariri.
Biography[]
Selim Hoss was born on 20 December 1929 in Beirut, Lebanon to a Sunni Muslim family. He received a PhD in business and economics from Indiana University in the United States and served as Prime Minister of Lebanon four times during the Lebanese Civil War, and during his 1987-1990 and 1998-200 terms he also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He protested against President Amine Gemayel's policies in the late 1980s, and when Michel Aoun refused to cede power to Hoss after he was dismissed from his post as Prime Minister (which was unrecognized by many politicians), Hoss left the Baabda presidential palace and set up his own office in West Beirut. His last term as Prime Minister ended in 2000 at the end of the civil war.
