Salim Hatum (1928-26 June 1967) was a member of the Syrian Regional Branch of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party and one of the key figures in the 1966 Syrian coup d'etat.
Biography[]
Salim Hatum was born in 1928 in Thaybin, Jabal al-Druze, Syria to a family of Druze Syrians. He joined the Syrian Ba'ath Party while at the Homs Military Academy, and he graduated with the rank of Captain in the Syrian Army. He was one of the few Ba'ath Party members in the army at the time, and he helped in the 1963 Syrian coup d'etat. In 1966, Hatum also took part in the coup against Amin al-Hafiz, but he felt that he was not properly rewarded for the coup and split from the Ba'ath Party. On 26 June 1967, he was executed by firing squad on Mustafa Tlass' orders for conspiring with Jordan.
