The Salieri crime family was an Italian-American Mafia crime family based in Chicago, Illinois. It was founded by Ennio Salieri in 1921, after he and his former ally and partner in crime Marcu Morello ended their association and decided to form their respective crime syndicates, with Morello moving his family to the eastern part of the city, while Salieri established his in Little Italy. Salieri quickly gathered a following among the working class of the city, and thus many people associated themselves with him, with the family counting, as of 1930, with close to 40 made men, and over a 100 associates throughout Little Italy.
While relations with the Morello family were initially peaceful, it didn't take long before they became sour, with brawls and gunfights frequently occurring as the years went by. These tensions escalated until 1935, when Morello planned a hit on Salieri as he was eating at a restaurant. Salieri survived the attack with the help of his caporegime Tommy Angelo, who murdered every hitman at the scene. Salieri, knowing soldato Carlo Renzetti must have fed Morello information, chased him through a neighborhood and killed him, leaving his corpse on the street. This sparked a 20-day war between the families, which saw the murder of Morello's brother and underboss Sergio. 7 days later, soldato Paulie Lombardo and caporegimes Tommy Angelo and Sam Trapani chased Morello through Chicago and its outskirts as he got inside a plane to escape the city, but it was shot down by the three hitmen, who executed him after he survived the crash.
Ultimately, in 1938, Tommy Angelo would turn out to be the family's downfall, as he was fed up with it after Sam Trapani executed Paulie Lombardo out of loyalty to Salieri, after which Angelo killed him after a shootout at the city gallery, and he entered the Witness Protection Program, giving his testimony against the family, which earned Salieri a life sentence in prison and put all other members behind bars, with some even getting sentenced to death by the electric chair. The family was dissolved, although Salieri still got to take revenge, as in 1951, hitmen Vito Scaletta and Joe Barbaro found Angelo at his New York City home and executed him.
