Sakuruta

Sakuruta (1820-1863) was a Pawnee warrior who lived in present-day Colorado during the 1860s. Sakuruta was known as a warlike and violent man whose own fellow warriors deduced that he would not stop with his violent antics until all of them were dead. In 1863, he ambushed and killed the American mule-wagon provisioner Robert Timmons with several arrows after finding him sitting by himself at a campfire. Later that same year, he led a war party of 40-50 warriors to attack a Lakota camp while its war party was searching for the Pawnee, but his war party was easily repelled by the Lakota, equipped with repeater rifles supplied by the sympathetic US Army lieutenant John Dunbar. Sakuruta was able to murder the medicine man Stone Calf before being encircled by the Lakota at a nearby creek and gunned down after letting out one last war cry.
