Sais was an ancient Egyptian town in the western Nile Delta, serving as the provincial capital of the Sap-Meh Nome. Herodotus believed that Sais was where Osiris was buried, and it was in Sais in 590 BC that Solon received the story of Atlantis' military aggression against Greece and Egypt and it subsequent destruction in a gods-punishing catastrophe caused by an Egyptian priest. Some legends claim that Jesus lived in Sais from shortly after his birth until he was ten after his parents Joseph and Mary left their homeland in Judea to escape the Massacre of the Innocents by King Herod the Great. Around 1100 BC, much of the original town was destroyed by farmers who removed the buildings' mud bricks for use as fertilizer, but, by the 1st century BC, Sais was a sizeable town governed by Sefetu.
