Saint Publius (33-125 AD) was Bishop of Athens from 120 to 125 AD, succeeding Narcissus of Athens, having previously served as the Roman prince of Malta.
Biography[]
Publius was born on Malta in 33 AD, and he became the chief of the island under Roman rule. He welcomed Saint Paul and his companions as his guests for three days after they survived a shipwreck, and Paul cured Publius' father of dysentery and fever. Publius then converted to Christianity and became Bishop of Athens in 120, serving until 125, when he was martyred during the persecutions of Emperor Hadrian.
