Saint Elen

Saint Elen (340-400), also known as Saint Helen of Caernarfon, was the daughter of King Eudaf Hen, the wife of Western Roman Emperor Magnus Maximus, and the mother of Annwn Dynod, Owain Finddu, Flavius Victor, Severa ferch Macsen, Flavius Claudius Constantinus, Gratianna ferch Macsen, Tudwal ap Macsen, and Ednyfed ap Macsen.

Biogrpahy[]

Elen ferch Eudaf was born in Segontium, Roman Britain (present-day Caernarvon, Wales) in 340 AD to the Welsh Prydain family, and she was the daughter of King Eudaf Hen of Gliwissig. She married the Western Roman general Magnus Maximus and convinced him to build roads across the country to help transport soldiers, leading to her being nicknamed "Elen of the Hosts". She and Magnus had several children: Annwn Dynod, Owain Finddu, Flavius Victor, Severa ferch Macsen, Flavius Claudius Constantinus, Gratianna ferch Macsen, Tudwal ap Macsen, and Ednyfed ap Macsen. She died in 400, outliving her husband and her son Flavius, who were killed in battle in 388. Elen became a local saint in Wales after her death.
