Saint-Michel is a neighborhood in the Latin Quarter of Paris, France. The neighborhood, named for the Boulevard Saint-Michel, was one of the intellectual nerve centers of Paris as part of the Latin Quarter; the Cafe Musain, where Les Amis de l'ABC organized in the leadup to the 1832 June Rebellion, was located at the Place Saint-Michel, at the site of a present-day McDonald's restaurant. During the May '68 demonstrations of 1968, protesters first gathered at the Place Saint-Michel. By the 21st century, Saint-Michel was known for its cobblestone streets, flowery balconies, and arthouse cinemas.
