Saint-Domingue (1659-1809) was a French colony that was located in present-day Haiti. From 1711 to 1770, its capital was at Cap Francais and, from 1770 to 1804, its capital was Port-au-Prince. Saint-Domingue was predominantly a cotton and sugar colony that was worked by African slaves, and in 1791-1804 it was the site of the Haitian Revolution, which emancipated the slaves, as well as saw the liberation the colony from the French colonial authorities.
