
Saif ad-Din Ghazi I (1116-1149) was the Emir of Mosul from 1146 to 1149 under the Zengids, succeeding Zengi and preceding Qutb ad-Din Mawdud.
Biography[]
Saif ad-Din Ghazi I was born in 1116, the son of Imad ad-Din Zengi and a scion of the Sunni Muslim Turkish Zengids. When his father was assassinated by a slave at Qal Ja'bari on 15 September 1146, Saif ad-Din was given his lands in Mesopotamia to rule while his brother Nur ad-Din was given Syria. In 1148, he helped to defend Damascus from the Second Crusade alongside his brother and the Burids, and he died in November 1149. His son Qutb ad-Din Mawdud succeeded him as emir of Mosul.
