Sahabah

The sahabah were the companions of the prophet Muhammad from 610 to 632 during the rise of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula. The sahabah were both male and female, both free-born people and slaves, both fair and dark-skinned, both Muslim and and non-Muslim (Mu'tim ibn 'Adi never converted). Based out of Medina, they fought against the pagan Quraysh until they were able to capture Mecca, and the sahabah campaigned against the pagans acros the peninsula until it was conquered by the time of Muhammad's death in 632. Afterwards, many of the surviving sahabah became leaders of the Rashidun Caliphate, spreading Islam beyond the peninsula.
