
Safiyyah bint 'Abd al-Muttalib (567-640) was an aunt of Muhammad, sister of Hamza ibn Abdul-Muttalib, and daughter of Abdul-Muttalib.
Biography[]
Safiyyah bint 'Abd al-Muttalib was born around 567, the daughter of Abdul-Muttalib. She married Harith ibn Harb and Awwam ibn Khuwaylid at different times, and she beat her son Zubayr ibn al-Awam so that he would be a strong warrior when he grew up. Later, she would convert to Islam and become a follower of Muhammad, and she threatened retreating Muslims at the Battle of Uhud, in which her brother Hamza ibn Abdul-Muttalib had been slain. One of the famous female Muslim warriors, she fought in several of Muhammad's battles, and she died in 640 during the Rashidun Caliphate.
