
Saad al-Salim al-Sabah (1930-13 May 2008) was Emir of Kuwait from 15 to 24 January 2006, succeeding Jaber al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah and preceding Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.
Biography[]
Saad al-Salim al-Sabah was born in Kuwait City, Kuwait, the eldest son of Abdullah al-Salem al-Sabah (who reigned as Emir from 1960 to 1965) and his East African wife. He served in the military and the Ministry of Interior, and he commanded the Directorate of Police from 1961 to 1962, served as Minister of Interior from 1964 to 1978, served as Prime Minister of Kuwait from 1978 to 2003, and as Crown Prince from 1978 to 2006. He was heavily involved in the liberation of Kuwait from Saddam Hussein's Iraqi Army during the Gulf War, serving as military governor of Kuwait from 1991 to 1992. He briefly inherited the throne in 2006, but he refused the emirship due to his colon disease. He died of a heart attack in Kuwait City in 2008 at the age of 78.
