Rutherford Webster

Rutherford Webster (15 June 1930 – 6 May 1972) was a colonel of the US Marine Corps. Webster was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War, and was killed in action in 1972.

Biography[]

Rutherford Webster was born on 15 June 1930 in Jackson, Mississippi. He was sent to join the 12th Marine Regiment during the Korean War of 1950-1953 and gained experience in the conflict, fighting vicious battles against North Korea's army. Webster's experience with this type of warfare led to him being promoted to Colonel in the MACV-SOG in South Vietnam in 1964, and he was sent to assist in destroying North Vietnamese Army (NVA) irregular forces in the demilitarized zone of Vietnam. He carried out Operation Red 1 in June 1968, which was a success for the United States' military. Webster also oversaw further operations against the NVA in the DMZ, but he was killed in action on 6 May 1972 during a campaign against Viet Cong troops in Quang Tri Province.
